Located within the historic Gold Rush Country, The Union Hotel Sierra Retreat in LaPorte, California offers a secluded escape from the pressures of modern urban life. Whether a family reunion, group retreat or just a group looking to get away, The Union Hotel is the perfect location for your gathering.

Surrounded by the beauty of the Plumas National Forest, La Porte is a tiny mountain community situated on the banks of Rabbit Creek. Miners still pan for gold on the banks of the creek, but the jewel of the area is Little Grass Valley Reservoir just three miles from the hotel. Here you can boat, fish and swim to your hearts content. In the winter the main pastimes are cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and relaxing by the fire in the hotel.

The Union Hotel, established in 1855, is the cornerstone of the historic town of La Porte. Standing proudly throughout the days of the Gold Rush, the Great Depression, and the prosperity of recent times, the Union Hotel has long been the meeting place of choice for groups, friends and families.

The Union Hotel was first built by the Murray family in 1855 and opened at its current location at Kittis Hotel. It was renamed The Union Hotel in 1860, in honor of the local Union soldiers.

The original hotel was destroyed by fire, and the current structure was built in 1906. The only remaining portion of the original structure is the brick safe, which in its day stored the gold discovered in the area. The safe still stands in the center of the hotel.

The Mercer Family has remodeled the hotel to serve more as a large cabin or retreat center to accommodate groups and large gatherings. Boasting three spacious levels, the Union Hotel offers a gourmet kitchen, dining room and lots of comfortable space on the first floor.  The bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, are located on the second and third floor.
